With the concept of low-carbon and green environmental protection becoming more and more deeply ingrained in people’s lives, the chemical industry, which has always been criticized for its environmental protection, is actively adjusting itself. In this wave of transformation, UV monomer resin curing technology, as a new environmentally friendly technology, has also ushered in a historic opportunity for development.
In the 1960s, Germany was the first to introduce UV monomer resin coatings for wood painting. Since then, UV monomer resin curing technology has gradually expanded from a single substrate of wood to coating applications of paper, various plastics, metals, stones, and even cement products, fabrics, leather and other substrates. The appearance of processed products has also evolved from the initial high gloss type to matte, pearl, hot stamping, texture, etc. to meet different needs.
Resin curing technology is a curing process that utilizes ultraviolet light (UV monomer resin) or electron beams as energy sources to initiate chemically active liquid formulations and achieve rapid reactions on the surface of the matrix. Due to the components in its formula, such as UV monomer resin, which participate in the curing reaction and do not emit volatile harmful substances into the atmosphere, its low-carbon, environmentally friendly, and VOC free technological advantages have attracted attention from various countries around the world. China began researching and applying UV monomer resin curing technology in the 1970s and achieved rapid development in the 1990s. According to relevant statistical data, the production of UV monomer resin cured coatings (UV monomer resin coatings) in China is about 200000 tons, achieving an output value of about 8.3 billion yuan, an increase of 24.7% compared to 2007. The product line involves bamboo and wood coatings, paper coatings, PVC coatings, plastic coatings, motorcycle coatings, home appliance coatings (3C coatings), metal coatings, mobile phone coatings, CD coatings, stone coatings, building coatings, etc. In 2008, the total production of UV monomer resin ink was about 20000 tons, and it has successfully penetrated into areas such as offset printing, gravure printing, embossing, silk screen printing, and flexographic printing that were originally high pollution solvent based ink territories.
Although UV monomer resin curing technology has outstanding technological advantages, more and more domestic manufacturers are turning to the development of UV monomer resin curing technology. However, through industry observation, the marketing level of UV monomer resin enterprises still has a significant gap compared to traditional solvent based enterprises. We often see some marketing strategies of traditional coatings and ink companies from media such as television, the internet, and newspapers, but we rarely see companies in the field of UV monomer resin curing having such ideas and skills. Undoubtedly, this is not conducive to the rapid and healthy development of the industry.
